Diversified Core Curriculum:
Physical and biological sciences
2 courses minimum totaling at least 8 credits:
1 physical science course with a lab or field experience (Phys/L)
1 biological science course with a lab/field experience (Biol/L)
Social sciences and humanities
Minimum of 15 credits:
6 credits in the social sciences (SSci)
3 credits in historical perspectives (HP)
6 credits in arts/humanities to include 1 course in literature (LIT)
and 1 course in arts/humanities (AH)
Mathematical thinking
Minimum of 1 course totaling at least 3 credits (Math)
Designated Themes of Liberal Education:
Minimum 1 course of at least 3 credits in each of the following four areas:
Cultural diversity (CD)
International perspective (IP)
Environment (Envt)
Citizenship and public ethics (C/PE)
UMTC Writing Requirements:
- ONE freshman composition course chosen from the following: EngC 1011, 1012, 1013, 1014, or Rhet 1101
- FOUR writing intensive (WI) courses: two of the four courses must be taken at the upper division level, 1 of which should be taken in your major. NOTE: Most CDes majors require enough WI courses to meet all four WI course requirements (check with your adviser!).
