Third Annual Flux Student Design Competition

Entry Deadline: October 3, 2008

This student design competition is open to graduate and undergraduate students. Entries must be school projects, freelance, or pro bono work created between August 2007 and October 2008. The competition has five categories: Posters, Packaging, Publications, Identity, and Web/Interactive. The entire fee is $5 per entry. Winning work will be displayed at The Blue Elephant Art Center in Frederick, MD, and celebrated at a reception and awards ceremony on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Art Center.

 

Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity (SEED) Awards

Application Deadline: October 10, 2008

The Office of Equity and Diversity is pleased to announce the opening of the application period for the first annual SEED Awards for undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota.  The SEED Awards program honors diverse students who are doing outstanding work, both in and out of the classroom.  Award amounts range from $1,000 to $3,000. SEED award recipients will demonstrate impressive achievement and leadership in one or both of the following areas:
1.)  Academic performance
2.)  Community activism and outreach

 

Art & Design for Social Justice Symposium

Paper Submission Deadline: October 15, 2008

This symposium focuses on how the tools of art and design can be utilized in addressing social issues confronting special populations and less advantaged groups. This event is designed to generate synergy, spawn collaborative projects and scholarly initiatives, and allow for examination of the role that art and design plays in the telling of a broader social narrative. The symposium will be held at Flordia State Univeristy on January 19, 2009. All interested are invited to attend.

CBS Student Board Logo Design Contest

Submission Deadline: July 11, 2008

Feeling creative? Well here's your chance to show off your talent to the entire University community! CBS Student Board is looking for a new logo, and any University student, CBS or non, may enter into the contest. The winner will be chosen by the CBS Student Board. The submission must be no larger than 50 pixels (height) by 250 pixels (wide), and must incorporate either "College of Biological Sciences Student Board" "CBS Student Board" or "CBSSB" into the design.

Carbon Buster Awards

Entry Deadline: Friday May 9, 2008

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar is presenting Carbon Buster Awards to Minnesotans making a difference in reducing global climate change. Klobuchar is asking undergraduate college students across the state to use pictures, essays or video to communicate how they're raising awareness about and combating the problem of global warming. Carbon Buster Awards of Excellence will be presented to the top entries in two categories: essay and multimedia.

2008 Metropolis Next Generation Design Competition

Entry deadline:  January 4, 2008

The designer or team whose idea is judged most innovative and practical for making the most efficient, life/environment-enhancing use of precious and dwindling water resource will be awarded $10,000.

The Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Design Excellence 2008

Entry deadline: Midnight, GMT, December 10, 2007

500 word essay on a topic important to the understanding of the interaction of people and the built world. The topic for 2008: Competing to Serve.

International Furniture Design Competition Asahikawa 2008

Entry deadline: December 7, 2007

Student Conservation Association/Mazda Conservation in Action Multimedia Contest

Applications due:  December 1, 2007

Submissions may be a research project or thesis as well as video, Powerpoint, or even a website.

The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) is offering a competitive scholarship of $2,000 for students working toward a degree in computer graphic design. Deadline is October 15, 2007.
