CDes
MEMO is the electronic newsletter of the College of Design. The publication
migrated to a continuous publication cycle in fall 2007 and current issues are
available on the CDes
MEMO Web site.
Send submissions to Michael Fraase, mfraase@umn.edu.
Keep informed about doings in the College of Design -- subscribe to the
CDes MEMO blog using an RSS feed
Have CDes MEMO come to your desktop with an RSS (Really Simple Syndication)
feed. You set it up once, and as new entries are published -- which is almost
every day -- you will be notified.
How do I do it?
If you are a Thunderbird user, probably the easiest way is to use Thunderbird's
RSS feature. Thunderbird lets you view RSS content in a way that is very similar
to reading e-mail. CDes MEMO will show up as its own folder in the left
pane, similar to your other folders. When new items arrive, you can tell the
same way as when you have new e-mail. It takes less than two minutes to set up.
Instructions
are available in the Mozilla knowledgebase.
Don't use Thunderbird? Web-based
readers and downloadable newsreaders are
other ways to read RSS feeds.
Still can't (or would rather not) figure it out?
E-mail Mike Fraase for help: mfraase@umn.edu.
He'll walk you through it or even come to you if necessary.
What are the advantages of having the college newsletter be a blog rather
than an e-mail?
- Timely publication cycle -- items can be communicated as they
come up, rather than waiting a week or two to be published
- Content is organized
by date published and by topics, is searchable, and always available for reference
through the archive
- Readers can comment on blog entries
- The content is available to everyone,
not just faculty, staff, and students. CDes MEMO showcases in the blogosphere
our people, projects, and achievements to our many audiences.
Did you know? There
is also a blog for students: College
of Design Student News.
